About the Producer
A little history
Ann and Jeff Ross began beekeeping after discovering European honey bees at their Beerburrum workshop in 2011. Ann later registered Hive Haven and added eight Australian native-bee colonies. After heat losses in 2014, the business exhibited a hexagonal stingless-bee-hive concept on the Sunshine Coast in June 2015. In October 2017, the Queensland Government announced an Ignite Ideas Fund grant for Hive Haven to manufacture its hive, investigate ways to stabilise the shelf life of native honey, and explore scaling native-bee farming.

Hive Haven combines beekeeping, honey production and hive innovation. It sells Native Bee Honey and native-bee hives, makes a security stand, offers hive purchases as well as rental and installation arrangements, and provides speaking and educational services. Its work includes both European honey bees and Australian stingless native bees.

Hive Haven says its concept hexagonal stingless-bee box was displayed at various Sunshine Coast locations in 2015, and its historical materials describe its early bee activity in the Sunshine Coast area. This supports regional hive activity but does not establish a single harvest site for Native Bee Honey.
