Western Tasmania's leatherwood forests, southwest Western Australia's jarrah country and Kangaroo Island's protected Ligurian honey-bee population are especially strong Honey Chronicles landscapes. Australia also carries one of the world's most consequential modern bee-health stories: Varroa destructor, first detected near Newcastle in 2022, moved from attempted eradication to national management and by 2026 included treatment-resistant mite populations in several mainland jurisdictions.
