Denmark

Denmark offers three honey stories that barely resemble one another. On Jutland heathlands, bees gather heather nectar for dark, strongly flavored honey. On the island of Læsø, beekeepers protect Denmark's surviving pure population of the European dark honeybee, Apis mellifera mellifera, with the island serving as a reserve since 1993. Copenhagen adds a third landscape: Bybi turned rooftops, gardens and city spaces into an urban honey network while using beekeeping as a social enterprise. Atlas therefore gets heath, island conservation and city honey inside one small country.
