Country

Andorra

Taking shape AD / AND Europe

Tiny Andorra may turn out to be one of Europe's most enjoyable honey countries for Atlas. Here, altitude can change a honey within only a few kilometers. Autèntic Abelles keeps its hives entirely inside Andorra and separates harvests by valley, altitude and flowering period instead of blending everything into one generic mountain honey. Its range includes rhododendron from Canillo and Encamp, holm oak from Sant Julià, heather from high mountain areas, spring honey and summer wildflower honey. Naturalis takes the altitude story even higher, keeping bees around 1,900 metres and selling mountain and high-mountain honey without heat treatment. Andorra's small scale may actually be its strength: the country is compact enough for Honey Chronicles to follow individual apiaries from lower valleys into alpine bloom almost as if the whole nation were one vertical honey trail.
