South Korea

Taking shape KR / KOR Asia

South Korea's commercial honey economy is dominated by Western honey bees and black-locust honey, while the native Asian honey bee Apis cerana supports a smaller, culturally distinct fixed-apiary tradition. The Rural Development Administration reported in 2025 that black-locust honey accounts for about 70% of domestic honey production. Korea's beekeeping sector is also under sustained pressure from winter colony losses, mites, disease and shortened flowering periods, making climate and Bee health major Chronicle themes.
