The Philippines has a biologically distinctive honey landscape in which Bee identity can be more important than floral source. Native stingless-bee honey—especially from Tetragonula biroi—has been chemically and botanically characterized across Batangas, Laguna, Quezon and Albay, while giant honey bees and introduced Apis mellifera add separate honey systems. The Department of Agriculture's standards work now explicitly includes stingless-bee colonies and honey, and 2025 University of the Philippines research demonstrated that Philippine honeys can be classified by entomological origin.
