Oman has a deep beekeeping tradition built around arid-land flowering cycles and two very different honey-bee systems: managed Apis mellifera and wild Apis florea, locally called Abu Tuwaiq. Sidr and Samr are the country's defining honey sources. In North Al Batinah alone, official ONA reporting recorded about 158 tonnes of Sidr and Samar honey in 2025. Traditional log hives survive in wadis near Rustaq and other mountain areas, while current licensing formalizes both private and commercial apiaries.
