Country
Iran
Iran has one of Asia's largest managed beekeeping sectors and a strong native Bee identity. The Ministry of Agriculture's latest census reporting cited more than 10.2 million colonies, 86,088 apiary units and roughly 127,000 tonnes of honey. West Azerbaijan is a major production center, while Sabalan/Ardabil has a particularly recognizable mountain-honey identity. Genetic research supports Apis mellifera meda as an important Iranian honey-bee population, but modern regional structure and introgression mean it should not be treated as a perfectly uniform national bee.
