Cambodia contains two distinct honey systems: managed beekeeping and wild honey collection. Its clearest museum-grade landscape is Mondulkiri, where Bunong/Pnong Indigenous honey hunters sustainably harvest honey from the giant honey bee Apis dorsata. Mondulkiri Wild Honey is protected by a Cambodian geographical indication, and the GI rules connect forest, season, Indigenous harvesting knowledge, wild bees and conservation. Current conservation work also continues to use wild honey as a forest livelihood in northern and eastern community forests, but those project areas should not automatically become Honey Regions.
